Abstract
1,218,174. Fertilizers. FISONS FERTILIZERS Ltd. 29 April, 1968 [3 Feb., 1967], No. 5254/67. Heading C1B. Powdered ammonium phosphate is added to molten urea containing an ammonium and/or potassium salt, the molten urea being at a temperature below the m.p. of pure urea, preferably not above 125‹ C. The ammonium phosphate may have an N : P atomic ratio of 1 to 1-2. The ammonium salt may be the nitrate, chloride, sulphate, sulphate/nitrate, phosphate/ nitrate, or magnesium nitrate. The potassium salt may be the nitrate, chloride, sulphate, phosphate, ammonium phosphate, thiocyanate, or cyanate. The product may contain at least 20% of urea and 5-35% of ammonium and/or potassium salt. In a continuous process, the ingredients may be continuously added and a portion of the molten mixture continuously withdrawn. The molten mixture may be prilled, flaked or granulated. Granulation may be effected by spraying on recycle or further fertilizer material and agitating in a rotating drum or paddle mixer. The further fertilizer material may be ammonium nitrate, sulphate or phosphate; single or triple superphosphate; or potassium nitrate, chloride, sulphate, phosphate or metaphosphate.
