Abstract

1,215,383. Optical apparatus. OLYMPUS OPTICAL CO. Ltd. Feb.27, 1968, No.9368/68. Heading G2J. [Also in Division A5] Apparatus for viewing the interior surfaces of spaces within a living body, e.g. bronchia, has a microscope consisting of an objective lens system 2 Fig. 1 which focuses an object on to one face 3a of a fibre optical bundle 3, the other face 3b of the bundle being viewed by an eyepiece 4, and a fibre optical illuminating system 5, the end of the apparatus being profiled at 1a, 5a to permit penetration of the apparatus into the body being examined. A fibre optical bundle 1 may be provided adjacent the end-face to produce an image on face 1b, or it may be replaced by a plane parallel optical element 21, inclined at an angle to the optical axis of the objective lens sytsem. In either case the resulting uneven magnification of the object can be compensated by using a cylindrical or anamorphic lens system. The end-face 3a of bundle 3 may also be inclined to the optical axis of the objective lens system.
