Abstract
1,210,592. Transparent copolyamides. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 7 March, 1968 [7 March, 1967; 14 Nov., 1967; 3 Feb., 1968], No. 11149/68 Heading C3R. A transparent copolyamide is obtained by copolymerizing a three-component system in a proportion defined by an optional point within the zone a, b. c, d of Fig. 1; the system comprising as the first component at least one polyamide precursor selected from lactams containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms, aliphatic omega-aminocarboxylic acids containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms, and nylon salts of aliphatic straight chain saturated diamines containing 2 to 12 carbon atoms and aliphatic straight chain saturated dicarboxylic acids containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms; as the second component a salt of hexamethylenediamine and isophthalic acid; and as the third component a salt of hexamethylenediamine and terephthalic acid. Preferred proportions of the three components fall within the zone p, q, r, s. Examples of the first component are epsilon caprolactam, omegacaprolactam, #-laurolactam, 11-aminoundecanoic acid, hexamethylene diammonium adipate and hexamethylene diammonium sebacate. The condensation reaction is carried out in a conventional manner, preferably in aqueous solution.
