Abstract

1,207,449. Break spinning. NEGISHI KOGYO KENKYUSHO K.K. 6 March, 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 10766/68. Heading D1D. In an open end spinning arrangement, fibres 4 are fed axially into a hollow cylinder 6 which is rotated at a specific speed and contains a helical coil 12 rotating in the same direction as the cylinder 6 but at a different speed. The fibres are thus pressed against the inner wall of the cylinder 6 and over the turns of coil 12 so that they rotate with the cylinder and are forwarded by the coil 12 towards the open end of the cylinder. The fibres are fed into the cylinder by rollers 1, 2 and preferably by an induced suction current in tube 3, see Fig. 3 not shown. The exit end of the cylinder is frusto-conical and is surrounded by a shield into which air is fed to assist in fibre withdrawal by an induced suction effect. The inner surface of cylinder 6 may be roughened or grooved to prevent the fibres slipping therein and it may be in the shape of an hour glass. The wire 12 may be of rectangular or halfcircular cross-section. As shown cylinder 6 is pressed against supporting wheels 8, 8a by a belt 9 by which it is driven, the weight of the cylinder being supported by a lip 10 on its upper end engaging wheel 8. Alternatively the wheels 8, 8a may be driven. Coil 12 is mounted in a hollow spindle 13, 24 driven by a belt 16 or a pulley, not shown.
