Abstract
1,192,559. Spinning yarns. MAREMONT CORP. 26 July, 1967 [27 July, 1966], No. 34403/67. Heading D1F. [Also in Division G3] A textile sliver, emerging from an evening unit length are detected and corrected, passes mechanism in which variations in mass per through a store to a drafting mechanism, and the speed of the latter is automatically controlled to maintain the quantity in the sore bzetween predetermined limits. As shown, flat ribbon slivers from cards, 12, 14, 16, 18, driven at constant speeds by a motor 28, are combined by turning bars 13, 15, 17, 19 into a composite sliver S which is drafted by passing through rolls 22, 23, 24, driven at successively higher speeds by motor 28 through a variable speed gear 25. The sliver is finally calendared by rolls 21 before coiling in a can 26. Variations in the mass of the sliver are detected by relative movement of tongue and groove gauging rolls 30, 32 associated with a transducer 38 controlling a variable speed gear 44, and hence the speed of auxiliary drafting rolls 40, 42, to even out the variations. The consequent short term variations in the speed of feed are taken, up by a loop store L the size of which is maintained between predetermined limits on a long term basis by photocells 51, 53, 55, 57 controlling variable speed gear 25 and hence the speed of the main drafting. The mass detector may alternatively utilise light, radio-activity, capacitance, or sound and the quantity in the store may be detected by its weight.
