Abstract

1,203,992. Welding by fusion. ORDENA TRLTDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E. O. PATONA. 29 June, 1967, No. 30100/67. Heading B3R. Apparatus for welding annular butt joints in vertically disposed pipes 2 comprises a body 1 adapted to be mounted on the pipe 2, a faceplate 3 mounted for rotation in the body 1 about the pipe 2, a support 6 for a welding head 4, the support 6 providing for adjustment of the head 4 in both horizontal and vertical directions. The support 6 comprises a first part 9 which is movable in a horizontal direction on guides 12 attached to the face-plate and a second part 10 pivotally connected to the part 9 at pivot 11 and carrying depending guide members 7 on which a carriage 8 is adjustably mounted, the carriage 8 having the welding head 4 attached thereto. The pivotally mounted support part 10 has a guide roller 14 attached thereto by a lever 13 so that as the welding head is rotated about the pipe the distance a at which the welding tip 5 is held from the joint remains constant.
