Abstract
1299286 Steam turbine plant KRAFTWERK UNION AG 16 July 1970 [16 July 1969] 34624/70 Heading F1Q [Also in Division F4] A steam turbine installation comprising a turbo-generator set 5, 6 in a turbine house 8 is located within a natural draught cooling tower 23 containing elements 16, 18 for condensing the turbine exhaust steam, the turbine house having two long sides 35, 36 in a space alongside which are located the steam condensing elements 16. The sides 9, 29 of the tower structure extend up to but not along the shorter end walls of the turbine house at one end which are located the control room 2, electrical gear 4, and a region 3 through which pipelines (not shown) pass from the boiler 1 to the turbine 5. At the other end of the installation is a transformer 11 and a railway track 13 used for servicing the installation. Steam from the turbine passes via ducting 7, 14, 15 to the cooling elements 16. Ducting 17 branching from ducting 14 conducts some of the steam to the cooling elements 18 which are mounted on a perforated platform 34 above a crane 32 in the turbine house. Partition and baffle walls 20, 21 keep separate the two air streams 19, 22 flowing over the elements. The air streams are regulated as they enter through the side walls of the tower by vanes 24, 33. In a further arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown) high pressure turbine exhaust steam is condensed in elements 18 and low-pressure turbine exhaust steam is condensed in elements 16 or a single stream of cooling air flows in series first over the elements 16 and then (via the interior of the turbine house and platform 34) over the elements 18. Under low ambient temperature conditions the turbine 5 can be shielded by a dismantable casing (27) Fig.3 (not shown) from the inflowing cooling air. If climatic conditions require it, the region above the turbine 5 can be shielded from the stream of pre-heated condenser cooling air by a dismantalable casing (27) Fig.3 (not shown).
