Abstract
810,405. Hydraulic turbines. ETABLISSEMENTS NEYRPIC. March 8, 1957, No. 7834/57. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A tidal power plant comprising an axial flow hydraulic turbine located in a conduit connecting two liquid masses separated by a dam and operable in two directions of flow has a diffuser located on at least one side of the turbine and formed in continuation of the conduit to terminate in an aperture formed in one of the wall faces of the dam and guide means associated with the aperture to impart rotary motion to the water entering the aperture but to interfere as little as possible with the flow leaving the aperture. A diffuser 13, Fig. 1, leads to an axial flow turbine. When the water is leaving the diffuser, Fig. 1, the flow separates from the edges of the aperture 10 and forms a stream of liquid 15 which disperses in a body of water 12. When the water enters the diffuser, Fig. 2, some of the individual streams of water 16 pass through the guide vanes 17 so that the flow of water is given a rotary motion in the same direction as that of the turbine rotor. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the guide vanes are mounted on a flared portion at the end of the diffuser remote from the turbine. The turbine may have in addition the normal movable guide vanes on both sides or may have the normal movable guide vanes on one side and the arrangement according to the invention on the other.
