In an installation comprising a steam boiler, a turbine which receives steam from the boiler, and condensing means to supply boiler feedwater from the exhaust steam from the turbine, two streams of exhaust 4, 5 from turbine stages 1, 2 supply two condensing means 6, 7. These are arranged so that the one, 7, produces condensate having a higher temperature and pressure than the other; as shown, this is achieved by blowing a stream or air 20 across first 6, then 7. The coolest stream is passed through duct 8 to container 10, arranged at a lower level than condenser 6, and is sprayed through nozzles 11 to be heated by an incoming supply of steam from duct 12. This steam may be turbine exhaust, as shown, or may be bled directly off the turbine. The heated condensate is mixed with the condensate from condenser 7 and a pump 16 supplies the resultant as feedwater through pipe 17.
