Abstract

1296982 Frameless hinged window HILL BROS GLASS CO Ltd 9 June 1970 [11 March 1969] 12640/69 Heading E1J In a window comprising a single unframed sheet 11 of toughened glass which is hingedly mounted in a metal frame 10 or, as shown, on the wooden sub-frame of such metal frame, the fittings such as hinges, stays and handles are attached to the glass sheet 11 by means of two opposed parts of each fitting being disposed on opposite sides of the sheet and connected by screw-threaded means passing through a single circular aperture in the sheet and being tightened to clamp the sheet between the two opposed parts of the fitting. As shown, a hinge member 13 is formed with a pad 16 having an internally screw-threaded boss 17 and a screw 19 is inserted through a hole in a corresponding pad 18 on the other side of the sheet 11 for engagement in the boss 17; alternatively the boss may be externally screw-threaded and the opposite pad replaced by an internally screw-threaded cupshaped member, and the screw 19 is dispensed with. A bush 20 and washers 21 and 22, or a split bush with annular flanges, of synthetic resin material are interposed between the parts of the fitting and the sheet 11. The aperture through the bush 20 may be eccentric. A sealing strip 12 is provided between the frame 10 and the sheet 11.
