Abstract

1291649 Scavenging vessels TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 20 Feb 1970 [6 March 1969] 8162/70 Heading B7A [Also in Division C1] Apparatus for removing oil from water surfaces comprises, Fig. 1, a vessel provided with an expander 10 for foaming particles of a plastics material such as polystyrene, a projector barrel 24, a standpipe 20 for delivering foamed particles from the expander to the projector barrel, and a compressor 33 connected to the projector barrel for supplying steam, air or other blowing gas thereto for disintegrating the foamed particles and projecting the resulting particles on the oil to form agglomerates therewith. The agglomerates are subsequently recovered using a screen 36, Fig. 4, mounted on the vessel for vertical movement and provided with a hinged skimmer blade 44. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,204,880.
