Abstract
1289390 Two part couplings FPT INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 June 1971 [17 June 1970] 29355/70 Heading H2E A plug and socket coupling may be detached by an axial force strong enough to compress the spring 17 and release the detent 20 from behind the inwardly projecting deformation 19. An outer sleeve 15 is held against a shoulder 14 by a coil spring 17. To engage the plug the outer sleeve is moved to the right until the detent 20, which is loosely held in the cylindrical socket 23, can move behind the projection 19. The plug is then pushed home (Fig. 1). To release the plug the plug is pulled until the outer sleeve 15 moves far enough to release the detent. The strength of the spring 15 may be set as required to allow the plug and socket to be disengaged only when a predetermined force is used. Flexible protective sleeves 26 may be fitted. Curved end pieces 11 permit the conductors to pass into the pins 24 and sockets 27 through insulating material 13, 22. In other embodiments the outer sleeve is attached to the curved end piece 11 and the inner part of the socket moves against the action of the spring.
