Abstract

1288280 Railway couplings AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc 25 Nov 1969 [16 Dec 1968] 57663/69 Heading B7T A bottom operating Janney-type railway coupling comprises a head 16 enclosing unlocking means for the pivoted knuckle 46, the unlocking means being actuatable by rotation of a rotor 66 mounted in the head between walls 74, 76, the rotation being operable by movement of a rotor arm 40 mounted on the rotor from a depending inactive position, shown in full lines in Fig. 2, to an unlocking position, shown in dot-dash lines, this movement being carried out by section 24 of a U-shaped member 18 pivoted to railway car 12 and operable from the periphery of the car by means of a lever 14, The unlocking means is operable by a projection 64 of the rotor which engages in a jaw 60 of a lever 58. The lever 58 is pivoted to a toggle 54 and having a trunnion thereof 52 engaging a leg 48 of the unlocking means. The centre of gravity of the rotor arm 40 is always such as to bias the arm in the clockwise position, Fig. 2, i.e. into the inactive position thereof. The Specification discloses the manner in which the contour of an A.A.R. type "F" coupler head may be modified for adaption of the coupler to one according to the invention.
