Abstract

1282265 Coating apparatus GAF CORP 8 Jan 1971 [19 Jan 1970] 2588/70 Heading B2L Apparatus for coating diazo paper comprises a transfer roller 8 and an applicator roller 2 wherein the surface of the transfer roller is contoured to produce a liquid retaining capacity in excess of that of sheet to be coated and that of the applicator roller. The surface of the transfer roller may be produced by winding stainless steel wire around a roller and the surface of the roller 2 is of a rubbery material formed into a grained ridge shape. A spring 7a urges the transfer roller into contact with a pick-up roller 1, and the applicator roller 2. To prevent curling of the paper the rear surface may be coated by a roller 5. Doctor blades 9a, 9b are provided to remove excess material which runs back into the troughs 3a, 3b connected by a pipe 3c. A guide 6 is provided for feeding the web or sheets of paper.
