967, 405. Web coating apparatus. E. L. WHICK. May 16, 1963 [June 15, 1962], No. 23009/62. Heading D1L. An appliance for pasting a roll of paper comprises a trough 10 for containing paste, a roller 18 for transferring paste from the trough to the paper, a pressure roller 19 for maintaining the paper in contact with the transfer roller, a spindle 20 for supporting the roll of paper 21, and a smoothing pad 26 offset from said rollers so that in use the paper extends in a bight from the roll thereof around the pressure roller 18 and over pad 26. The roller 18 preferably has a yielding porous surface and the pressure roller 19 and spindle 20 are removable to facilitate loading. Guide means which engage the lateral edges of the paper so as to constrain the latter in a predetermined path may also be provided.
