1281678 Sewing fur strips F L OLDAY 14 July 1970 [22 Aug 1969] 34164/70 Heading DIG A guide for directing strips of fur to a sewing machine has surfaces 82 for sliding engagement with the skins of adjacent fur strips to be sewn and has a central strip separating blade 94 angularly adjustable with respect to the surfaces to allow for an imbalance of hair extending from the edges of the fur strip. Furs are fed in the sewing machine by a driven feed wheel 20 and a feed wheel 22 which can move towards or away from the fixed wheel 20 to accommodate different thickness of fur skins. The guide is positioned so that the adjustable blade 94 lies in the plane midway between the nearest points of the wheels 20, 22 and this position is adjustable as the wheel 22 moves for different thicknesses of furs by means of cams 66, 68. The cam 68 is attached to an adjusting screw 70 and the cam is fixed to a shaft 30 carrying the wheel 22 and so moves relative to the cam 68 as different fur thicknesses are experienced. A cam follower 64, connected to the guide carrying pipe 52 is moved by the cam 66 by half the distance moved by the cam thus keeping the blade 94 midway between the wheels 20 and 22. As the fur approaches the guide the pipe 52 is lowered by a treadle and the machine started. Air flows down pipe 52 and is directed by vanes 104 against the edges of the fur to be sewn. The air can be directed against one edge or the other by rotation of the nozzle 102. The nozzle 102 acts on control member 98 of pivotable blade 94 and it pivots about its point of attachment 100 to press against the fur edge which has previously been subjected to the air jet.
