Abstract
1281470 Seismic energy generators BOLT ASSOCIATES Inc 23 Dec 1970 [29 Dec 1969] 61249/70 Heading H4D A seismic energy generator for use on hard, soft or marshy ground or on water-covered areas comprises a liquid-containing tank 12 including one or more devices 18 for abruptly releasing pressurized gas (e.g. air) into the liquid, the tank having as its base a displaceable diaphragm structure comprising a diaphragm and cylindrical member 38. This structure allows the tank to move upwards as the seismic energy is transmitted downwards. The diaphragm is of metal. A seal which allows relative movement between tank 12 and member 38 is provided by annular, sliding, plastics (e.g. polyurethane) seal 42 or (Fig. 4, not shown) by a second, polyurethane diaphragm clamped at 47 to the rim of the wall of tank 12 so that the second diaphragm overlies the one shown. A stop-ring 56 and shock-absorbing polyurethane ring 58 limit the relative movement of tank 12 and member 38 so that the upward movement of tank 12 lifts the metal diaphragm after initial downward motion of the diaphragm. A support for the generator " catches " the generator and retards its subsequent fall. Rubber boot 62 excludes dirt from the generator. Released gas is vented from the generator via a gas-liquid separator.
