Abstract

1275399 Plastics sacks REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 8371/70 Heading B8K The bottom of a side gussetted plastics sack is closed by means of at least one heat seal 5 extending across each four-layer region 3 formed by the gussets, at least one heat seal 4 extending across the two-layer region 1 and spaced from the heat seals 5 at 6 and a heat seal 7 disposed outwardly of the heat seals 4 and 5 and extending across the width of the sack. The heat seals 5 are applied at a greater temperature and/or pressure and/or for a greater length of time than the heat seals 4 to form the seals of substantially equal strengths. The seals 4 and 5 may be colinear, as shown, or may be linear or curved and inclined with respect to each other. The sack is formed from a gusset-folded tube which is flattened by heated rollers, heat sealed and cut as it passes over a table. The heated sealing elements may all be contained in one head, or the seals 4 and 5 may be formed by one head and the seal 7 by another head at a later stage.
