Abstract
1,172,803. Bag seal. FISONS (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. 7 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 11060/68. Headings B8C and B8K. A tubular bag, or sack, e.g. of thermoplastic material has a seal comprising a strip 18 folded over the mouth of the bag and sealed to the walls 12, 14 which are partially sealed together to leave gaps 17 along the length of the seal between the walls. In one embodiment (Figs. 4, 7, not shown) gap 17 is formed by only one or two strips (16), e.g. of polyethylene or polyvinylchloride, applied as a hot melt to the outside of walls 12, 14. The strips prevent heat reaching the inner walls to seal them together. In another embodiment (Figs. 3, 6), the strips (16) are of ink, varnish, or a tacky substance and are formed on the inside of walls 12, 14. The ink strips do not unite when the walls are heat sealed, whilst the tacky strips, although united, can separate readily. The bag may be sealed at both ends. The seal protects the bag contents from moisture but allows gases to escape through the gaps 17, which are preferably 0À3-0À8 inch in length, along a channel d having a clearance of <SP>1</SP>/ 8 inch.
