Abstract
1,271,139. Moulds. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 15 Aug., 1969 [28 Aug., 1968], No. 40907/69. Heading B3F. A billet casting mould comprises two end walls 2, 3 held together by spacers 5 with shoulders 6 and wedges 7. The end part 2 has recesses 13 with vents 14 defining the end of the billet whilst the end part 3 is provided with a replaceable refractory pouring runner 10 and a slide valve 12. The mould also comprises two graphite co-operating mould parts 4 defining the bulk of the casting cavities 1, each part being supported by a frame (15) and movable on the frames transverse to the mould longitudinal axis by hydraulic motors (20). In operation, the mould parts 4 are brought together and clamped. The mould ends are wedged firmly and melt introduced into the runner from the riser pipe 11 of a pressure or vacuum casting ladle. After the mould is full, the valve 12 is closed and the melt allowed to cool sufficiently for the mould parts 4 to be removed. The assembly comprising the end walls 2, 3, the spacers 6 and the cast billets is lifted by lugs 23 to a cooling station.
