Abstract
1,270,273. Electrostatic charging apparatus. EASTMAN KODAK CO. July 17, 1969 [July 22, 1968], No.36058/69. Heading G2H. A photo-conductive surface 3 is uniformly charged by corona wires 1 within a shield 2 held at a high potential V 1 . A grid 6 held at a lower potential V 2 has wires decreasing in space towards the right. Where the spacing is at a maximum the ion leakage through the grid is at a maximum and vice versa. The surface 3 is moved in the direction of the arrow X and in so doing will be subjected to a high potential initially which then decreases to the voltage source 11. In other embodiments, the voltage across the grid is decreased in the direction of movement of the photo-conductor, Fig. 7 (not shown) or the spacing and voltage is decreased in this direction Fig. 9 (not shown).
