Abstract
1,265,667. Clamps; adjustable mine roof supports. LORENZ - POLYGON - AUSBAU G.m.b.H. 3 April, 1969 [30 Aug., 1968; 6 Feb., 1969], No. 17462/69. Headings E1E and E2B. Support structures for mines consist of longitudinally overlapping flanged members 1, 2 clamped together by two clamps 3, 4 each clamp having two jaws 5 which embrace one flange 1a or 2a and each jaw has a dependent gripper arm 13 which extends along an end portion of one of the profiled members. Bolt holes in the jaws may be inclined to the abutment surface of a nut and head of a tightening bolt 9 and an upper surface of each jaw may be inclined to the abutment surface at an obtuse angle and the jaw opening may have corresponding depressions and elevations whereby the jaws tilt when a load is applied to a profiled member thereby increasing the clamping force. Also to increase the clamping force an additional clamp 43 may be secured to the flange 1a adjacent the clamp 3. In a modification, each clamp jaw has an apertured lug for an additional bolt which also passes through an aperture in a web of the profiled member to which the clamp is attached.
