Abstract

1,262,500. Aerials. GRANGER ASSOCIATES. 18 June, 1969 [23 July, 1968], No. 30820/69. Heading H4A. An aerial system 10, Fig. 1, comprises a support tower 11 with guys 12, on which is a generally triangular supporting assembly 13, including three radially disposed booms 14, 16, 17. An upward extension 18 provides anchorage for downwardly extending guys 19, which are coupled to the booms by bridles 21. Catenary cables extend between the ends of the booms and support an array of radiating elements. As shown in Fig. 3, said array consists of a plurality of parallel dipoles 31 connected to a feeder 33 extending along the axis of the boom 14, said dipoles having extensions 29 at their ends which are carried along the associated catenary cable, forming L-shaped active members. The lengths of the extensions 29 may be made equal to the sags of the catenary at their particular dipoles (Fig. 5, not shown) and the said extensions are made of a load-bearing material and are connected by insulating means at each of their ends to form parts of the catenary cable (Figs. 4, 11, not shown). The dipoles may alternatively be connected to the centres of their extensions, forming T- shaped active members. In another embodiment, the catenary cables are continuous, and extensions at the ends of the dipoles are run in parallel with the catenary cable, the ends of the dipoles and of their extensions being supported within the said cable by insulating means (Figs. 8, 9, not shown).
