Abstract

1,164,048. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS-G.m.b.H. 19 Dec., 1967 [4 Jan., 1967], No. 57622/67. Heading H4A. A medium wave aerial system comprises two crossed horizontally-disposed half-wave dipoles 3, 4 which are suspended by insulators 21 from masts 1 at a predetermined height above the ground, e.g. at 0À4 times the wavelength, and central feed means consisting of two crossed, vertically rising feeders having conductors 5, 6 and 7, 8, respectively. Insulators 2 are interposed between adjacent junctions of the feeder conductors with the dipole feed points. The two feeders may be separately fed with power in phase quadrature, when the two dipoles radiate omni-directionally, with an elevated main disection of radiation, e.g., from 17 to 45 degrees. Alternatively, by using switching means provided, the feeder conductors 5, 6, 7, 8 may be connected together, and be fed in parallel, when the said conductors constitute a vertical cage aerial, with a horizontal main direction of radiation. It is stated that the dipoles can be regarded as having negligible effect when the aerial system is operated in this manner.
