Abstract

978,104. Masts. SIEMENS & HALSKI A. G. June 28, 1963 [June 29, 1962], No. 25755/63. Heading EIB. [Also in Division H4] The wind loading on an aerial mast is reduced by surrounding the lower portion of it by a tube with which it has no direct mechanical connection. As described, an upper tube is built up from sections 2<SP>1</SP> of insulating material e.g., synthetic resin bonded glass fibre, to the inner walls of which are attached aerial elements, the upper tube being mounted on a lattice support mast 3. Surrounding this, but having no direct mechanical connection to it, is a lower tube built up from similar sections 2 of insulating materials. The mast 3 may support arrays of dipoles and the aerials so constructed may be used for different frequency bands. A skirt or flexible gaiter 5 may be used as a weather-seal between the two tubes and lamps 8 may be mounted at the top of the mast.
