Abstract

1,262,459. Laminates. NATIONAL RE. SEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 9 April, 1969 [9 April, 1968], No. 16984/68. Heading B5N. A material for use in the preparation of a surface covering comprises a cellular material 1 having an open-cellular structure in which the side walls of the cells are provided by pieces of sheet material, e.g. a honeycomb made of paper, card, plastics material or resin impregnated paper, at least some of the cells of the material being at least partially filled with a moisture absorbent thermally insulating material, e.g. exfoliated vermiculite, containing a fungicide, e.g. sodium pentachlorophenate or pentachlorophenol. One face of the cellular material may be covered with a surfacing layer 3 permeable to water vapour, e.g. card, or a perforated sheet of metal or plastics. A backing sheet 4 which may be permeable, e.g. card, or impermeable, e.g. metal, or plastics, may be applied to the other surface of the cellular material. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, a wire mesh 5 is interposed between the cellular layer 1 and the surfacing layer 3. A product of the invention may be applied to a preformed wall or building panel; alternatively, such a product may be used to line shuttering for concrete, the product being left in place on removal of the shuttering.
