A seat includes a resilient upholstery support 4 secured to lugs 3 of sleeves 2 rotatably mounted on a fixed frame 1, the sleeves 2 having an associated mechanism for rotating the sleeves 2 to adjust the tension in the support 4 and its position retative to the frame 1. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the adjusting mechanism includes a turnbuckle 5, 7-9 acting on levers 6 integral with the sleeves 2. Alternatively, Fig. 2, worm wheels 10 on the sleeves 2 are driven in opposite directions by worms 12. Alternatively, the sleeves 2 may be independently adjusted. The support 4 may be inclined by connecting one end the lugs 3 above the frame 1 and the other end to lugs 3 below the frame.
