Abstract

1,249,933. Coating metals and alloys by diffusion. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 11, 1969 [Nov.29, 1968], No.34996/69. Headings C7A and C7F. A substrate of Fe, Ni or Co is coated by heating at 1600 to 2100‹F. in the presence of but out of contact with an alloy consisting of (per cent by wt) 50 to 70 Ti, 20 to 48 Al and 0À5 to 9 combined C 3 and a halide which may be a fluoride or chloride of ammonia or an alkali metal. An inert filler e.g. Al 2 O 3 may be present. The articles may be suspended in a container out of contact with the coating material. The substrate may be one of the following alloys (wt per cent): -
