A frame 2 for a circular or square manhole cover or the like is telescopically supported within a fixed frame 1 by the heads 8 of height-adjusting screws 7. Each frame 1, 2 comprises a one-piece casting provided with slotted lugs for the adjusting screws, and is slightly tapered.
