Abstract

1,249,847. 847. Engine starter drives. BENDIX CORP. March 31, 1970 [April 4, 1969J, No.15083/70. Heading F1K. A starter drive comprises advance assist means 20 interconnecting the starter drive housing 26 and the shiftable drive portion 10 to provide a position sensitive rotational braking force so that a sleeve means 16 is selectively braked to permit a helical screw thread to advance the pinion means 24 into engagement with the ring gear 30 of the engine. As shown the advance assist means may comprise electromagnetic brake means 36 slidingly interconnecting the starter drive housing and the sleeve means.
