Abstract

1294018 Engine turning gear DUCELLIER ET CIE 12 June 1970 [24 June 1969] 28538/70 Heading F1K An electric starter for an internal-combustion engine comprises a starting mechanism with a pinion 1 which is axially displaceable in relation to a starter motor shaft and which is connected through the intermediary of a free wheel 3 to a hollow shaft or sleeve which can screw along helical grooves formed in the starter motor shaft. There is provided in combination means 8, 9 for effecting positive locking, in the stationary position, of the starting mechanism in relation to the starter motor casing and a friction device 19a, 7a which acts on the hollow shaft or sleeve of the starting mechanism to retard the rotation of the latter during its return to the stationary position after starting of the engine. As shown the locking means is constituted by an annulus 6 which comprises a ring of teeth 8 which engage with teeth 9 on a ring 10. The annulus is held in the locking position by a lever 12.
