Abstract

1,249,320. Hatch covers. CARGOSPEED EQUIPMENT Ltd., and J. G. BROWN. 20 March, 1970 [24 Dec., 1968], No. 61324/68. Heading B7S. A cargo vessel has a series of aligned hatchways A, B, C, each of the hatchways having two outer cover sections 10, 11 and hinged to each outer section an inner cover, section 12. The adjacent outer cover sections 10, 11 have sponsons 18, 13 secured respectively to their sides and extending parallel to the direction of alignment of the series of hatchways. The sponsons overlap and each is pivotably supported at its end by stools 20a, 15 respectively. Hydraulic jacks 21, 17 connected to respective sponsons open and close the outer sections 10 and 11. The sponsons and the hydraulic jacks are positioned outboard of the hatchways.
