Abstract

1,242,279. Hopper barges. INGENIEURSBUREAU N.V. 26 Nov., 1968 [7 Dec., 1967], No. 56119/68. Heading B7A. A hopper-barge consisting of two air cases 1 hinged together at 2 and held in the closed position by an hydraulic jack 4 or catch device (not shown), has a prestressed curve built into the making surfaces 5 which are lined with hollow rubber sealing strips 7. In operation with the barge empty the surfaces 5 have the convex form illustrated in Fig. 2, but deformation of the barge under load causes the surfaces to assume a concave shape (Fig. 4, not shown); the strips 7 serving to seal the gap under all conditions. Optimum dimensions are quoted in the Specification.
