Abstract
1,133,364. Attaching knobs to spindles. B. LILLY & SONS Ltd. 1 Feb., 1967 [12 March, 1966], No. 10965/66. Heading F2U. A knob- or, as shown, handle-carrying spindle for operating door latches comprises a squarechannel- or U-sectioned hard metal, e.g. steel, or hard plastics sleeve 1 and a core or insert 2 of wood, fibre, soft plastics, or soft metal, e.g. aluminium or zinc, one handle 5 being attached thereto by a pin 8 passing through the handle, the legs of the U-sectioned sleeve and the insert, and the other handle 6 being axially-adjustably fixed to the spindle by a screw or peg 12 passing through the handle and into a hole previously formed, e.g. by a bradawl, in the soft insert 2, expanding the insert and hence the shell 1 into firm contact with the square socket 4 of the handle 6. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the insert (2<SP>1</SP>) is formed at one end with an axial slot (13), or groove, into which a self-tapping screw (12), or a peg, is inserted.
