Abstract
1,131,685. Parachutes; air cushion vehicles; manoeuvring ships. G.Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. 17 July, 1967 [8 Oct., 1966], No. 45074/66. Headings B7G, B7K and B7V. A craft such as a ship or hovercraft has a brake parachute installation comprising parachutes 12, 13 on the sides thereof arranged so that they can be deployed quickly (below the surface of the water, or in the air) and can be partly or wholly deflated whilst in use. Each parachute comprises a main canopy 12 connected to the craft by an apex line 14 and loops 15, 16, 17, rigging lines 18 passing through retrieval loops 19 and attached to a main cable 20 and, as shown in Fig. 5, a net canopy 22 connected to the peripheral hem of the main canopy 12 and provided with a central line 23 which is pulled to pull the net canopy out of the main canopy to reef the latter. A stowage (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) is provided for the parachutes. The parachutes may be used to assist turning manoeuvers of the craft, e.g. by partly or wholly reefing one whilst the other is fully deployed.
