1,129,342. Processing radioactive waste. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 11 Aug., 1966 [20 Aug., 1965], No. 35934/65. Heading G6R. A method of storing highly radioactive liquid effluent comprises containing the liquid in a vessel subjected to sub-atmospheric pressure to cause low temperature boiling by heat derived from the decay of radioactivity and condensing the resultant condensate. The condensate may be returned to the vessel or sent for disposal. The vessel may include a heating coil for supplying supplementary heat to the liquid and the lower half of the vessel has a water-cooled jacket to remove the heat from the precipitated solids.
