Abstract

A weft knitted fabric comprises an unset synthetic yarn stretched to a greater extent in the stitch head than the legs. The yarn may be knit in alternate courses, or stretched to a different amount in alternate courses. The yarn may be reinforced with an inextensible yarn which breaks at random intervals when the first yarn is stretched.
