Abstract
A tubular warp knitted net is produced on a two bed Raschel machine such that some yarns are knitted by the needles of one bed only and others are knitted by the needles of the other bed only, whereby a fabric structure having two layers is produced. The yarns of each layer are knitted as chain stitches and periodically the yarns are transferred to be knitted by adjacent needles in the same bed to form further chain stitches. At the selvedges the yarns which are fed to the needles of one bed are transferred to be knitted periodically by the needles of the other bed thereby ensuring the completion of a tubular structure. The chain stitch formation with the occasional shifting of the yarns from one needle to the next ensures the production of the tubular net formation. All of the yarns are also caused to transfer to needles of the other bed on occasions when it is desired to effect a closure in the tube. This also enables the fabric tube to be cut beneath this yarn transfer point whereby openwork tubular structures having a closed end can be produced.
