Abstract

974,001. Stockings. CHADBOURN GOTHAM Inc. Feb. 22, 1961 [Dec 13 1960], No. 6516/61. Heading D1K. A knitted stocking has certain courses of a torque yarn and a raw yarn knitted together and having held and float stitches occurring in closely spaced courses and wales. As shown, the combined yarns are knitted in alternate courses 46, the courses 42 being of raw yarn, although the stocking may be knitted throughout of the combined yarns. The float and held stitches 48,44 may be repeated every fourth wale and every fourth pair of courses and progress one wale to the left for each pair of courses. Both torque and raw yarns are preferably of monofilament nylon and the torque yarns may be of unidirectional twist-torque or of opposite torque in alternate courses.
