Abstract

1,121,787. Pistons. BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI A.S. 12 July, 1967 [12 July, 1966], No. 32127/67 Heading F2T. A piston for an I.C. engine comprises a force transmitting means 9 disposed between the piston crown 2 and an extension 6 on the piston rod without being mechanically secured to the crown, and one or more springs 11 preloaded between the extension and the piston skirt 3. As shown, a single spring washer 11 is preloaded with a clearance 14 by a retaining ring 12. Cooling oil is circulated in the direction of the arrows through the hollow piston-rod and apertures 16, 17 provided in the force transmitting means. For trunk pistons with gudgeon pin connections, the rod extension 6 is replaced by the gudgeon pin bearing which is formed separate from the crown and skirt. If desired, the force transmitting member 9 may be bolted to the rod extension 6 or gudgeon pin bearing.
