Abstract

1,119,189. Planetary rolling mills. MASHINNO-ELEKTROTECHNITSHESKI INSTITUT. 27 Oct., 1965 [27 Oct., 1964], No. 45580/65. Heading B3M. A planetary rolling mill comprises two sets of tapered work rolls 13 carried on supporting rolls 12, mounted on a rotatable body 7 supported in bearings 8 in the mill frame. Body 7 is rotated about the axis of the work by an electric motor (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), which drives through clutches (2), (4) a speed reducer (3), to a bevel wheel 5 which meshes with a bevel wheel 6 on body 7. Each of the rolls 12 is rotated about its own axis when body 7 rotates by planetary gears 9, 10 mounted on the drive shaft of the roll, and meshing with a stationary internal gear 11. The stock may be cold-rolled, or may be hot-rolled by passing it through an induction heating oven 16. Rolls 13 rotate about their own axes due to contact with the stock, and equal running speed of the rolls is ensured by a synchronizer 17. A mechanism 18 provides a thrust to rolls 12 for adjusting the pass.
