Abstract
Compounds of the formula <FORM:1111984/C2/1> where R, R1 and R11 are each hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical, are prepared by contacting an alkylene oxide (which may be substituted, e.g. by alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl) with an aqueous solution of a salt of thiocyanic acid at 0 DEG -30 DEG C. while keeping the pH at 5-7; after the pH has ceased to vary, heating the product at 50-80 DEG C. until no more product precipitates on cooling to ambient temperature; and separating the precipitate. Before the heating, the product may be extracted from the aqueous medium into an organic solvent and heated therein; or if NH4NCS is used, the organic layer formed by reaction with the alkylene oxide may be separated from the aqueous medium and then heated
