Abstract
Compounds of the general formula R-CHX-CH2-S-CO-NH2 wherein R is H, alkyl or haloalkyl and X is halogen, are prepared from compounds of the general formula R-CHOH-CH2-SCN or the corresponding 2-imino-1-oxathiolane derivative therefrom, by heating with aqueous solution of a halogen hydracid of a concentration of at least 6N. The starting materials of the formula R-CHOH-CH2-SCN may be prepared by the condensation of an inorganic thiocyanate with an alkylene oxide in a strongly acid medium, and if desired may be converted to thec orresponding 2-imino-1-oxathiolane by treatment with a gaseous hydrogen halide.
