Abstract

The invention relates to hydroxyparacancrinite, 3(Al2O3, 2SiO2, Na2O)2NaOH, which has the X-ray diffraction diagram given in the Specification. The hydroxyparacancrinite can be made by heating at a temperature above 200 DEG C. and under a pressure equal to the saturation pressure of water at this temperature a mixture of SiO2, Al(OH)3, NaOH and water in which mixture the molar ratios are: SIO2: Al(OH)3>1, NaOH : Al(OH)3>5 and water: NaOH>6. The hydroxyparacancrinite can be used for exchange of anions derived from inorganic oxyacids, e.g. SO4, in neutral or slightly alkaline aqueous solution at a temperature \sF200 DEG C. under the corresponding steam pressure.ALSO:Hydroxyparacancrinite, 3(Al2O3, 2SiO2, Na2O) 2NaOH, which has the X-ray diffraction diagram given in the Specification can be used for exchange of anions derived from inorganic oxyacids, e.g. SO4, in neutral or slightly alkaline aqueous solution at a temperature equal to or greater than 200 DEG C under the corresponding steam pressure.
