Abstract

1,197,583. Ball mills. A. SZEGARI. 16 July, 1968 [17 July, 1967], No. 32770/67. Heading B2A. A stirrer type. ball mill has an agitator with arms 6a, b, Fig. 1, alternately disposed at right angles to a shaft with a baffle, e:g. a disc 9 (which may be vaned) between each pair, to prevent liquid flow along and immediately around the shaft. The arms may be located in grooves and cross-bolted to the shaft. Alternatively the agitator may comprise known plates or rings which would (in the absence of (baffles) permit flow along and immediately around the shaft. Balls from 1/16" to 9/116" of e.g. steel or ceramic, e.g. steatite, aluminium oxide, zirconia or hafnium dioxide, or small pebbles may be used, with rotor speeds from 100 to 800 r.p.m. The mill may have a sieve to prevent loss of grinding media.
