Abstract

1,189,198. Welding by fusion; making centrifugal pumps. GRUNDFOS A.S. 31 July, 1967 [9 Aug., 1966], No. 35080/67. Headings B3A and B3R. [Also in Division F1] A multi-stage centrifugal pump housing comprises a number of coaxial sections 1, Fig. 1, bolted together and each containing a guide device 6 comprising inner and outer shrouds 16, 17 and a series of blades 23 secured to the shrouds by projections (24), Fig. 3 (not shown), located in complementary slots in the shrouds. Each housing section and the outer shroud of the associated guide device is formed in two parts. On assembly of the guide device and attachment thereof to the associated housing section, the two parts of the housing section and the two parts of the outer shroud are brought together as shown at a by a suitable tool and are joined by a single-welded seam extending around the housing. The weld may be made by an electric arc with a protective gas and using the flanges 19 as filler material. Alternatively, the flanges 19 may be of smaller diameter to form a circumferential groove which is filled with foreign filler material. The various parts of the housing section and guide device are made by drawing and punching sheet material, e.g. stainless steel.
