Abstract

1,189,192. Removal of sulphur oxides from a gas containing them and oxygen and steam. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. 11 May, 1967 [12 May, 1966], No. 22040/67. Heading C1A. Sulphur oxides are removed from gases which contain them, oxygen and steam by introducing ammonia either into the gas before its contact with an adsorption agent, or into the adsorption agent directly. Active charcoal or high temperature coke are preferred adsorption agents, and the adsorption of the sulphur oxides can be effected below 200‹ C., a preferred range being 80‹ to 160‹ C. A molar ratio of from 1 : 1 to 1 : 4 between the ammonia and sulphur oxides is preferably maintained within the adsorption charge.
