Abstract
1443273 Stripping ammonia from coke oven gas SIMON-CARVES Ltd 9 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 01049/74 Heading C5E Coke oven gas is cooled and treated with an aqueous solution in such a way that the ammonia content of the treated gas lies below a required value, the ammonia is stripped from the aqueous solution obtained by means of steam, and the aqueous solution or effluent remaining after the stripping is cooled and brought into contact with a gas containing carbon dioxide in such a way that the partial pressure of the remaining free ammonia in the aqueous solution falls to a value such that the aqueous solution is suitable for stripping the ammonia from the gas. A part of the cleaned coke oven gas may be used as the gas containing carbon dioxide, and after contacting the effluent the gas is returned to the input gas flow. Contact with the gas containing carbon dioxide may be under pressure or at a temperature at or above that at which the gas is ammonia washed.
