Abstract

1,183,561. Two-part couplings. ERICSSON TELEPHONES Ltd. 22 Nov., 1968 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1704/68. Heading H2E. Sidewalls 13. 17 of a channel in an insulating body, preferably moulded plastics, of an edge connector for a circuit board each secures a row of resilient contacts 12 or 16, the contacts 12 or 16 of the rows being staggered in relation to each other and having free ends touching the opposite wall 13 or 17. By extending across the channel the contacts make good electrical contact even with a badly warped circuit board. A contact 12 may contact a stud 38 if a circuit board is not inserted, the stud 38 being connected in a circuit which indicates whether or not a board is inserted. A pair of touching contacts 29, 30 are provided which are either disposed opposite each other or are staggered as contacts 12, 16 and have offset free ends (35, 36) to counteract the stagger (Fig. 7, not shown). These contacts provide electrical continuity between a number of serially connected edge connectors when circuit boards are not inserted (Fig. 8, not shown), continuity being maintained on insertion of circuit boards, which break the connection between contacts 29, 30, by contacts 12, 16 via the circuitry on the boards.
