Abstract

1,181,644. Electric couplings. AMP Inc. 11 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 27628/68. Heading H2E. An electrical connector, e.g. a printed circuit edge connector EC (Fig. 1), comprises an insulating housing 1 containing contact elements 2, formed integral with posts 4 which extend beyond the housing 1 through cylindrical projections 6, 6a in its base 5. The connector is designed for use with a mounting member 7 containing a plurality of holes 8, 81 to receive the projections, which are firmly gripped by protrusions 9 (Fig. 3) in the holes, these protrusions biting into the material of the projections. The projections 6, 6a are respectively longer, and shorter than the thickness of the mounting member 7. If the mounting member is of metal, earthing connection to it may be made by means of a metal collar 10, which is inserted into a hole 8<SP>1</SP> which receives a short projection 6a. The collar has sharp grooved outer edges 12 which scour the inner edge of the hole, so making good electrical contact, and two pairs of inner spring fingers, one pair of which scours the surface of the inserted contact post 4<SP>1</SP>, so making good contact, and the other pair providing lateral support if required.
